The Process
Clients
I treat adults, 18+, presenting with a wide range of psychological issues and from many referral pathways.
Neurodivergence
Having a child on the autistic spectrum, I have an interest in working with neurodivergent people and have undergone further training to work with people with ADHD and Autistic Spectrum Conditions, particularly adults who have been recently diagnosed.
Presenting Problems
My client population typically present with conditions including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, obsessional compulsive disorder (OCD) phobias, depression, mixed anxiety and depression, relational issues, stress and burnout and trauma. Such disorders are very common and can affect many people, sometimes being exacerbated by periods of change or life-stage issues.
Assessment
An initial meeting is arranged to take a full history of the problem. The assessment meeting is charged at the same rate as treatment sessions. The meeting is concluded with a conceptualization of the problem, agreed goals, and recommendations for the most appropriate way forward, which may include ongoing treatment or a variety of appropriate referral pathways.
Referrals
Private, self-referrals are welcomed but some personal details will be required, including the name of your general practitioner. Many referrals are via private medical insurance companies, sometimes after a GP referral, and sometimes directly from the insurer. Other referrals come by way of psychiatrists or rehabilitation agencies. Whatever the referral pathway, I will always recommend the most clinically appropriate action, whether offering treatment or making an onward referral.
Brief Interventions
Many of the issues my clients present with require relatively brief interventions, typically 8-20 sessions, depending on the nature of the issues. A collaborative approach is developed allowing client and therapist to tackle problems together. Sessions usually begin with weekly meeting but often then move to fortnightly meetings as skills acquired are put into practice.
Costs
I have fixed contracted fees with all the insurance companies and agencies I work with. For private clients, there are two fee levels, £90 per session for online sessions and £110 for face-to-face sessions across all three sites.
